From a Tiny Button to BASH

BASH started with a tiny silicone button on our desk.

Coming from a robotics hardware background, our team has spent years working with sensors, materials, motion control, and algorithms. So when we began exploring game input, one question came naturally:

What if soft material itself could become a precise input interface?

It Started with Deformation

The first prototype was simple: a piece of silicone, an optical sensing system, and an algorithm that kept evolving.

We began by reading how the silicone changed shape when pressed or pushed, then turning those changes into continuous input.

As the prototypes evolved, the interface began to recognize more: directional movement, pressure, and rotation.

Instead of waiting for a mechanical structure to move before input begins, the system reads deformation directly from the soft surface. That opened up something we had been looking for from the start:

Designed to minimize dead zone and mechanical dead travel.

Even small movements can become input as the surface begins to change.That small experiment gradually became GumiTap.

From GumiTap to BASH

The next step was bringing soft input into real gameplay.

Materials, structure, optics, algorithms, and feel all went through repeated rounds of testing and refinement. We built prototypes, played with them, changed them, and built again.The goal wasn’t simply to make a softer joystick. It was to create an input system that could feel immediate, precise, and expressive in ways a conventional mechanical structure could not.

Eventually, GumiTap grew from a standalone experiment into one of the core interaction systems inside BASH.

Today, BASH is a complete game controller.But at the beginning, it came down to one simple question:
